A SAD QUINTESSENCE OF AUTUMN

Sad.
No joy yesterday,
No yes today,
No success tomorrow.

Sadness.
No jesting lines,
No zest of minds,
No best of times.

Sad emptiness.
No fresh insights,
No restful nights,
No equal human rights.

Sad nests,
No harvest time blessing,
No parental addressing,
No fledglings impressing.

Sad empty nests,
No hidden birds of a feather shown,
No appeasement from those that have skyward flown.
No easing from bare trees who stand alone.

Sad trees,
Not keeping colours the same,
Not restraining the winds of change,
Not wearing a fashionable clothing range.

Sad naked trees,

I excuse your lachrymose loss of leaves,

My love encircles everyone of you that grieves,

In sacrifice we serve and then,

In faith our shared belief relieves,

A SAD QUINTESSENCE OF AUTUMN.
